Choose a Goal
Setting goals is very important in memorizing Scripture!
If you don’t have a goal you have nothing to aim for and no finish line to strive for. We HIGHLY recommend you to set a minimum goal of at least a chapter. If you have never memorized before a chapter can be daunting, but you are capable of memorizing and you will be surprised by how your brain improves and retains more as you keep memorizing.
Step 1
Once you set your goal we challenge you to set a specific goal that can be broken down into easy, manageable steps. Set deadlines for yourself to help stay on track; such as Memorize Psalm 1 (6 verses) by next Friday.
Step 2
Set a monthly goal such as memorize Acts 1 by the end of the month. Set a weekly goal of 6 verses. Have a daily goal to spend 5 minutes going over 1 verse. Some days you may memorize more than 1 verse and some days you may not memorize at all. Don’t get discouraged if you miss a day or if you don’t make your weekly goal. Simply readjust your memorizing schedule and goal.
Step 3
Finally, remember that you DO have the ability to memorize and you CAN memorize entire chapters of the Bible! The enemy will try to discourage you and tell you that you are too old, don't have the abilities or the time. Focus on the treasure that the Word of God is and take heart that He has equipped you with the strength to tackle this task!
